Credit cards are equipped with vital information on it that must be destroyed before you dispose of it. In order to effectively dispose your credit cards you need to make sure to destroy all aspects of the card containing vital information. Here’s how to properly dispose your unused credit cards.

Steps To Disposal

  • Disable the magnet strip. You can do this by using a strong magnet and rubbing it over the magnetic strip. Cutting it up is just as effective.
  • Disable the Smart Chip. You can smash it a few times with a hammer or feel free to cut it up.
  • Shred the credit card. If you have a specialized cross shredder run the card through that. If you don’t then manually cutting it is just as effective. Make sure to cut the numbers and much as possible. Next, throw a few pieces here in there in different garbage bags.
