You hear it on the news everyday: Another victim of identity theft. Scammers today are becoming more and more cunning, yet, consumers seem to fall prey without really knowing how. It has been reported that over 9 million fall prey to identity theft. One of the simplest ways a thief can obtain personal information from you is simply to go dumpster diving in nearby trash bins.

Dumpster divers can find out birth dates, sensitive information like your social security number and even PIN codes to your bank account. So how can you be safe and prevent identity theft? Become an id watch dog and sniff around your home for pieces of information that could slip into the wrong hands. Use a cross shredder to obliterate all personal identification information.
